US measles cases surge to 2,318 in 2026

Measles on the March: A Cautionary Tale for a Nation Unwell The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released data showing 2,318 measles cases in the United States this year, surpassing last year's total and marking the highest number of recorded cases since 1991.

The numbers are stark, but they only tell part of the story. Almost all of these cases – a staggering 93% – have occurred among people who are unvaccinated or whose vaccination status remains unknown.

This is particularly troubling given that nearly one fifth of those affected were children and teenagers (19 and younger) hospitalized due to measles, highlighting the devastating consequences of failing to prioritize public health.
